Shukura Porter is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. As a young child embedded in fashion titled as little miss North Carolinas national pageant winner, every dress she wore her mother hand made. Life in pageantry geared her future in fashion and her mother Josephine Porter was always a fashionable inspiration. During high school Shukura learned to sew from her mother and fashion club. She met a good friend of the family that recommended her work to a local Nigerian seamstress. Shukura became a ghost designer for the seamstress, creating African wedding dresses. During her time at The International Academy of Deign & Technology for fashion design and merchandising in Tampa FL, she became an intern for Saks Fifth Ave and produced her first in store fashion show in 2007. Finally in 2013 Shukura returned to Charlotte as a fashion designer and partnered with IKEA to create an Avant-garde recyclable garment of Art to help bring awareness to the IKEA Foundation and its brand. She made parade dance teams outfits to prom dresses, but a major focus was being the BOH director for many great local productions such as Fashion D’Lux and others.
She later created her own fashion production show called The Fashion Excursion LLC in 2016; partnered with Sax Fifth Avenue, Nordstroms and other well known high fashion stores and brands. Each show gave back to a different charity, such as The National Brain Tumor Society. Shukura’s production was seen on Roku TV, YouTube, Spectrum Channel 21 and more. Her production at the local Porsche dealership in Charlotte was a hit that set the bar higher for herself. Meanwhile she helped produce shows on the NYFW ( New York Fashion Week) and LFW ( London Fashion Week ) stages for well know designers, such as New York brand and International designer Premal Badiani.
